Variations on the Number 4

This is the fourth in theĀ Variations on Numbers Series.

Four is the first composite number. And it’s the first non-trivial square number. (The number 1 is a perfect square as well, but it’s kinda lame.)

Super cool fact: 4 is the only number whose spelling in English has the same number of letters as the number!

The phrase “four letter word” in American slang means “a bad word.” That’s the reason this site is named Math Is Not a Four Letter Word.

What’s your variation on four?

Where do you see the number 4 in your world? And what are the variations?

Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments, and don’t forget to talk about the number 4 with your children!
